Huge shipments of copper ore from mines in the western end of North Carolina and Copperhill, Tennessee, increased the line's tonnage. Also on the KPRY roster is a 1948 GE diesel-electric engine similar to the early GE units purchased by Lihue Plantation Co. A scheme was subsequently broached of having European steamers land passengers at Montauk Point, but that project never got beyond the stage of discussion.
